As you can read on several sites (fi FGN), the sale of tribes 2 is going incredibly well. Over 200,000 people have registered to play Tribes 2 online in only four months of the game being in stores. "There are now over 200,000 Tribes 2 competitors and spectators out there," beamed Alex Rodberg, brand manager. "The community has really embraced the game, and we saw a dramatic increase in the rate of registrations after the last Tribes update. We're fast on track to reaching our goal of a million players."

D-Link, Sierra, and VitalStream are hosting a series of Tribes 2 online tournaments throughout the remainder of the summer. The "2001 Summer Games" will be open to the public and held online each weekend. Their giving out $30,000 in goodies. Tribes must consist of 5 player teams. Sign ups and more info is available here. id Software has released Beta patch v1.29G which is now available via the ingame-update system (since 1.29f). The update is about 26MB and available in win32 and Linux flavors.

Computer and Video Games is reporting that its Raven Software thats been working on Quake 4, as they reported on July 10, the development of the game was out-sourced by id Software for unspecified reasons, and now insiders are claiming that id Software want to focus total attention on DOOM 3. id Software, Raven Software and Activision were unavailable for comment.

Remedy updated their site with a FAQ on the forthcoming Max Payne v1.01 patch. 3D Realms' George Broussard also updated his .plan with more details on the patch which should be released tomarrow. The patch addresses: Exit to desktop stability issues, game not starting with some CD-Rom drives, and a win2k/GF3 bug.

The Epic Games Website has posted the latest Unreal Engine development status update discussing some of the new features in the 739 build of the engine, talking about the Unreal Engine-based Xbox port, and an introduction to the Unreal Developer Network.

3D Realms' George Broussard made an updated to his .plan on the release status and a demo of Max Payne. The game should arrive in stores around the 26th (in the US), with 3DR pre-orders shipping early next week.
Remedy and 3DR are working on the demo for Max Payne now. Expect it out a couple of weeks after the game hits the shelves. It looks to be fairly large, and could easily be in excess of 120 megs. This is due to lots of art, sounds, and map data. We're basically not going to trim the content of the demo to make it an easy download.
