I'm a big fan of Moto Racer, and I couldn't wait for the release of Moto Racer 2. After installing this pre-alpha demo version I was a little disapointed, even though I know that the full game will be so much more.

Controling your bike is pretty much the same as Moto Racer, which I like, because Moto Racer had nice, smooth controls. In the Pre-Alpha demo, all of the sounds are the same as Moto Racer 1 (yes it's time to disable those lame voices again). The interface has changed visually, but it really is the same thing. The types of Gameplay are also the same (speed bike and dirt bike). Each having their own advantages and disadvantages. You can still do your stunts and wheelie's to give you that extra speed boost, and you can still do extremly high jumps which totally defy the laws of gravity. Yes, some of the physics are wacked, but bending the rules a bit makes the game a lot more enjoyable.

So where does this game change a lot? The graphics engine. It is simple a modified Moto Racer engine, but the visuals are a lot more rich, and detailed. Sharper and clearer textures and little things like lens flare make the game look a whole lot different. Take a look at the screenshots below. One thing that will make many people happy is the hardware support. Currently, the pre-alpha version supports Standard Direct 3D and native 3Dfx, PowerVR, nVidia, and Permedia support. I ran the 3Dfx version on my 4MB Voodoo1 and it actually ran at 800x600 -- smoothly!. I never though I could get this sucker to 800x600 in any game, but it did in MR2.

So, is this game worth the buy? Yes. If you truly enjoyed Moto Racer and it's style of gameplay. And if you didn't enjoy Moto Racer, these arcade-quality graphics might attract you.
