eDimensional is a relative new comer to the 3D Glasses market offering two different models of their 3D Glasses, or as they refer to them E-D Glasses, both a wired and wireless model. The packages are both based off the original H3D Universal Controller and glasses and boast low cost and high compatibility as their top features. The actually systems are fully H3D compatible as they are manufactured by the same company that manufactured the original H3D, EyeSCREAM, and REVLATOR glasses as well.

This review will cover only information specific to this particular glasses package. Putting the same information in each 3d glasses review would be redundant so for your convenience I have also posted several articles to help you learn more about 3D glasses and how to use them.  If you are new to 3D Glasses I recommend you read our article "3D Glasses How they Work"  so you have a better understanding of the technology behind 3D shutter glasses.  There is also a list of articles at the end of the review that will help you get the most out of your 3D Glasses.

In the Box
The E-D Wired Kit we received was shipped as loose parts instead of a retail package however we have been assured that when you order them they come a nice shiny retail box with the exact same contents as we received. The kits Comes with the Universal H3D "Dongle" or controller, a power adapter kit, the glasses, extra set of bows, and driver CD.  The controller or dongle is basically a 6" long VGA cable with a box on the end of it with a connector for your monitor, an 1/8" stereo jack for your glasses and a 3 pin mini-din plug for a IR Wireless Port. The power adapter kit is another VGA pass-through that also has a connector that goes between your keyboard and pc to collect the 5 volts to run your controller. The glasses are approximately the same size as a regular pair of sunglasses and of the 4 sets of glasses I have tested are the smallest, lightest and most comfortable glasses of all.  The glasses have a 6' 6" cable which comes off the right bow and terminates in a standard 1/8" stereo headphone jack. There are also two pairs of adjustable bows in two lengths so they are sure to fit any head. And lastly the driver CD contains an older version of the eyeSCREAM 2000 drivers so you will want to download the latest ones from the eyeSCREAM page immediately.

Installation
Setup of the E-D Wired is a breeze simply hook the two dongles between your video card and monitor and the power connector between your pc and keyboard and then simply plug the glasses into the dongle (controller). After booting your PC simply install the Wicked3D eyeSCREAM drivers and reboot for the final time.  After you boot you are prompted to calibrate the glasses with the eyeSCREAM driver which you are guided through the whole process with a very easy to use calibration wizard.  Then you can immediately start enjoying real 3d with your new glasses.

Drivers
As with the other products I tested the eyeSCREAM drivers that shipped with the H3D Terminator weren't the latest so you will want to download the latest from Wicked 3D.  Though the eyeSCREAM drivers have pretty good quality and the upcoming eyeSCREAM Pro drivers promise even better quality.  I have been assured that it will only be a matter of time before the eyeSCREAM Pro drivers are provided as a free upgrade for the E-D Wired Package.

Thanks to the new H3D Universal controller and its ability to support all 4 modes of 3D not only will you be able to use any of the gaming drivers available, but you will also have the ability to view interlaced images on the net using the line blanker mode as well. Another great feature is that because the controller is by H3D it responds to the H3D control codes in the Revelator driver where many of the other controllers I tested had to be manually activated.

Usage
The E-D glasses were very comfortable and I tested them for literally hours on end of non stop gaming playing 100's of games from my extensive library.  The glasses cable is rather short for an installation with a tower case under your desk so I used a stereo headphone extension cable for most of my testing and I recommend the same solution for almost everyone of the wired glasses sets I have tested. The glasses come with two sets of bows and I should stress that you should really try both pair as I found the glasses hugged my head and felt like they held in place much better with the short bows.  I didn't even think to try the short ones till after plenty of hours of my complaining they were just a bit too loose thought I couldn't imagine why the shorter ones would have helped. Because of the very nice compact size of the glasses I was certain they wouldn't work well for someone who had regular eye glasses however to my surprise a few of my glasses wearing friends proved me wrong and said they were quite comfortable over their prescription glasses.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Activate with generic REVELATOR drivers
  • Comfortable glasses
  • Supports all 3D modes

Cons

  • Thin cable
  • only one glasses connection
  • short cable
  • cable clutter
  • no activation button

Conclusion
The E-D Gamer is certainly a nice low cost 3d glasses package that offers maximum compatibility and comfort and a price you can't hardly beat. The fact that it is 100% H3D compatible and supports all 4 modes speaks for itself. These are literally the most bang for the buck in the low price range of 3D Glasses.
