3DGW's Banshee Game FAQ
Last updated 03/21/99
This FAQ is meant to provide Voodoo Banshee owners a single place to get info on getting games working with their video cards. This is a work in progress so if you have any information that is not listed here please send it to me. bill@3dgw.com.
Generic Info
I have seen a lot of posts about problems that can be cleared up simply by going into
the bios of your motherboard and turning VGA Pallet snoop off.
Nascar 2
To get Nascar 2 working on the Banshee uninstall the game to remove any reference to
the driver that is on the Nascar2 CD. Then reinstall the Nascar2. Install the
Patch. Play. -Source 3Dfx News Groups.
Need for Speed III
If you see something like this when you launch NFS III:
Abort Message:
Exeption caught!
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION:read attempted @0xFFFFFFFF
CS=00000137 DS=00000013F ...............
Do the following:
This fix may apply to other recent Electronic Arts "99" sport games
NHL 99
See Need for Speed III
Quake II
If the game does not run, you need an updated 3dfxgl.dll file. Creative Labs
Americas includes this file on the installation CD in a folder named OpenGL. This is
missing from the installation CD in other parts of the world. You can get it from
our ftp site OGLinst.exe (425kb).
Just run the self installing executable.
Not all patched versions of Quake II seem to work. I could not get Quake II version 3.14 to work, whereas the original CD version 3.05 works. Reports are that 3.17 and 3.19 also work.
To fix Quake II being too dark, put:
vid_gamma 1.2
gl_modulate 3.5
in your autoexec.cfg in your base dir. or you can type them in console then type
vid_restart .
SiN
Seeing as SiN uses the Quake II engine, it uses the same fix as Quake II.
Ultim@te Race Pro
In the game folder, rename the file Hw3d.dll to Hw3d.bak. Copy the Banshee
3dfxgl.dll to the game folder and rename to Hw3d.dll
Unreal
Many have reported that the Unreal 2.09 beta patch seems to work fine with Unreal
where as the 2.17 patch does not.
